WordPress maintenance & security updates

WordPress is a very popular system and as such if vulnerable to hacking attacks and plugin malfunctions.

Plugin and update

WordPress is a very popular system and as such its vulnerabilities are quite well known to hackers. Luckily the developers push out regular updates and in turn developers of plugins also need to push updates out.

If a site is attacked due to a security vulnerability (in either the core or a plugin) you’ll likely find that Google shows a ‘This site may be hacked’ message when you google your site; or worse – hidden links to dodgy websites may be embedded in it. It may even be offline completely.

The reason for this is that many websites are rarely managed and as a result the WordPress core and plugins remain untouched – all the while the site is vulnerable to attack.

Our website maintenance & security package covers the updating of your sites plugins on either a weekly or monthly basis – you’ll always be up-to-date.

Be secure

You may be surprised to hear it but your WordPress is being targeted by hackers on a regular basis.

They try to force their way into your admin area where they can gain total control over your websites content and your theme files.

As part of our website maintenance & security package we run regular security evaluations to ensure that your site is as secure as possible to foil those brute force attempts. We won’t say anymore about what we do, we don’t want them to find out!

Backup

When your site gets hacked its a horrible feeling. Imagine all the content on your homepage has been changed or links are pointing to another, dodgy website.

The first thing you want to do is login and change it. Why can’t you login? Because the hacker has admin access they’ve deleted your user account and hijacked the site. The only thing you can do is get in touch with your hosting company and ask them to roll it back to an earlier version.

But… does your host provide backups? If so, how far back do they go? What if they don’t? What happens now?

Our website maintenance & security package backs up both your website files (the uploads and theme folders) and your database. This means we can roll back your site to an earlier version quite quickly.

We’ll still need to find out how your site got hacked; it may be because of a plugin (not necessarily because it needs updating, some are just poorly coded), someone may have intercepted user details to login (maybe your machine was key-logged or a password manager was compromised) or it may have been via your hosting account.

Again, our website maintenance & security package will enable us to dedicated a certain amount of time in attempting to isolate the issue and remedy it where possible.
